- Water losses that occur until soil particles are sufficiently saturated, such as in filling a reservoir for the first time.
- Water losses that occur until the aggregate in a concrete mix is saturated.
Electronics
- In the transmission of electromagnetic waves, losses due to dissipation or the conversion of energy. For example, a conversion of electrical energy into heat. Also called absorption losses. When the loss is because of absorption by the atmosphere, it is called atmospheric absorption.
