• Music played between the acts of a play. Such musical interludeswere especially important in the Elizabethan and Restoration theater.The composer Henry Purcell supplied act-tunes for such plays as KingArthur (1691) and The Fairy Queen (1692). Introductorymusic for a play was known as the curtain-tune.
