  • A more cold-tolerant grape, Vitus labrusca or V. rotundifolia, which has been hybridized with the European grape, Vitus vinifera, to produce a wide range of cooler-climate cultivars. American grapes are considered to be inferior to the European varieties, V. rotundifolia having a foxy flavour.
