Ampurdán-Costa Brava DO

Definition

Wine

  • a DO zone in the Catalonia region of Spain, north of Girona and next to the border with France, that grows mostly Grenache (Garnacha) and Carignan (Cariñena) grape varieties for red and rosé wines, and a smaller quantity of Macabeo and Xarel-lo for rosé and white wines. It formerly produced much of the rancio style of wine, and then concentrated on rosé wine for local consumption, but is now looking to better-quality wines and wider markets.
