antenna pattern

  • The pattern representing how the field strength of an antenna varies as a function of direction and distance. It may refer to the transmitting or receiving effectiveness of an antenna, and can be measured in any plane, although the horizontal and/or vertical planes are most common. A typical antenna pattern has lobes that indicate areas of enhanced response within a given plane. An Adcock antenna, for example, produces an antenna pattern in the form of a figure-eight. Also called antenna radiation pattern.
