aperiodic damping

Definitions

  • damping so large that after an instantaneous disturbance a system comes to rest without passing through or oscillating around the state of equilibrium. Seen, for instance, in a device or instrument pointer which settles without overshooting the rest position after a measurement.
  • Damping as a result of an enclosure system in which the overshoot of a speaker is dampened, providing more precise reproduction.
