The base is coated with breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter, followed by sliced cooking apples and topped with currants soaked in rum. This is baked at 175°C for 10 minutes, then filled with a sweetened egg custard made with cream, sprinkled with sugar and butter and baked until the custard is set and browned.
