  • To send information or signals, such as files or TV programming, to a location from which distribution is facilitated. For example, to transmit a live scene from a given location to a central location from which signals are uplinked to a satellite, which in turn emits signals to large areas.
  • To send information or signals, such as data or telephone calls, to locations further than the intended destination, and then back to the final destination from said remote location, when doing so is simpler, faster, and/or cheaper.
