bail/bale on someone

Definition

Slang

  • verb to oppress, burden or trouble someone. The bail or bale in question may derive from cotton picking, as in the words from Ole Man River; ‘tote that barge, lift that bale, get a little drunk and you lands in jail’, or may refer to bailing as in dumping water (on). The expression is typically used by teenagers and students.
