  • In Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, the reluctant lover ofBenedick. Born under a "dancing star", Beatrice is perhapsthe wittiest of Shakespeare's heroines and probably the most attractive tomodern audiences. Ellen Terry gave a particularly notable performancein the role at the Lyceum Theatre in 1882. More recent successes in the roleinclude Sinead Cusack (1985), Felicity Kendal (1989), and Tamsin Greig (2006).
