beresk

Definition

Slang

  • adjective berserk, out of control. A humorous corruption perhaps inspired by a genuinely mistaken pronunciation, or possibly by the influence of ‘bereft’. An alternative is ‘besrek’. Both forms have been heard, mainly among middle-class speakers in Britain and Australia – students and rugby players are typical users – since the early 1970s.
