Astronomy
- An electron given off in radioactive decay or otherwise found outside an atom. Beta particles are among the commonest components of cosmic radiation.
Electronics
- A charged particle emitted by many radioactive elements. When the emitted particle is negative, it is an electron, and when positive it is a positron.
