  • The 9th brightest star in the sky and the brightest in the constellation Orion. A variable star with an average apparent magnitude of 0.41 and absolute magnitude of –5.6, Betelgeuse is a red giant of spectral type M2, and looks distinctly reddish-orange to the naked eye. Despite its distance of 520 light years it is one of the most distinctive stars in the sky.
