• The name of a play and a theatrical genre found throughoutthe Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, where it is acted by travellingtroupes. Bhama is a shortening of Satyabhama, the beautifulbut jealous wife of Lord Krishna, and kalapam means 'dialogue'or 'argument'. Siddhendra Yogi created it in the 17th century as adevotional form for all-male Kuchipudi companies. AlthoughBhamakalapam features the full range of feminine dancing movements,or lasya, it retains the tradition of using only male dancers. The form was long patronized by local landowners but is now in dangerof disappearing from modern India.

Although some scholars also refer to the genre as VithiNatakam it is distinct from the area's street drama, VeedhiNatakam.
