  • In data transmission, the sameness of the parity bit, which is an additional bit, 0 or 1, that is added to each byte sent, so that all bytes are odd, or all bytes are even. At the receiving location the additional bit is checked, to be sure it is the same. If it is, the transmission has passed this test of data integrity.
