  • The insertion of additional bits into a data stream, to avoid the appearance of unintended control sequences, or to conform to a required frame size. These bits are removed at the receiving location to restore the original message.
  • The altering of the bit rate of a transmission so that it can be received at a different rate, without introducing errors. Also called justification (1), or pulse stuffing.
