  • Object long thought to be a strange variable star and now regarded as a quasar. The class of similar objects are called Lacertids, BL Lacertae objects, or Blazars. They are marked by a very featureless spectrum and a tendency to rapid changes in brightness. They emit their light radiation in polarised form and are strong radio emitters.
