His greatest feat was in 1859, when hecrossed the Niagara Falls on a tightrope, embellishing the performanceby repeating it blindfolded, wheeling a barrow, twirling an umbrella,and carrying a man on his back. He made a fortune by this feat andsoon after settled in England, where he gave performances until oldage forced him to retire.
