boracic

Definition

Slang

  • adjective penniless, broke. The word is a shortening of the rhyming slang ‘boracic lint’: skint. A genuine example of London working-class argot, this term was adopted into raffish speech in general from the early 1970s. (Boracic is an older name for boric acid used as a weak antiseptic impregnating bandages, etc.).
