  • The most important class of leafy vegetables, belonging to the genus Brassica and grown throughout the world in a variety of forms. Generally classified as western brassicas, such as kale, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, calabrese, broccoli raab, kohlrabi, swedes and turnips, or oriental brassicas, such as mizuna greens, komatsuna, Chinese cabbage, pak choy and Chinese broccoli. The oriental brassicas are mainly cultivated for the leaves and leafy stems. See individual items for details.
