breakfast cereals

  • Breakfast food other than bread or cake made from cereal grains, principally, maize, rice, wheat, or oats. Some are cooked as needed, e.g. porridge, boiled rice and congĂ©, others are commercially processed by precooking, pressing, drying and coating, e.g. cornflakes and rice crispies. Yet others use only a part of the cereal, e.g. bran flakes, and others are used raw such as rolled oats in muesli. Generally eaten with milk and sugar, possibly fruit and other flavourings.
