  • noun an international agreement reached in 1944, setting up the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and a system of fixed exchange rates between currencies. At the Bretton Woods Conference the British government put forward a different plan to set up an institution similar to an international clearing house. This was called the Keynes Plan.
