  • The Cuban and Caribbean version of the Spanish sainete.Bufos blend comedy, music, and satire and deal mainly with the workingclasses. The bufos cubanos were generally political satires,often on the theme of illusion and reality. They enjoyed great popularityat the turn of the century but had disappeared by the 1920s, beingreplaced by the zarzuela. Some 30 years later, the genrewas resurrected by Fidel Castro's regime as a propaganda vehicle.
