  • verb to play truant or absent oneself. A term now heard mainly among schoolchildren, bunk off is a variant of ‘do a bunk’ which has been a common expression since the 19th century. There is no connection with bunk bed, but rather with the sense of bunk (like ‘bung’) meaning ‘to hoist or toss’.
