bursters

Definition

Astronomy

  • Sources of intense blasts of celestial X-rays, also called X-ray bursters and identified especially with multiple star systems. Bursts of X-rays can be produced by effects such as the build-up of masses of gas on the surface of a small star like a neutron star or in a globular cluster, from which energy is released in a sudden pulse.
