C:N ratio

Definition

Wine

  • the ratio between relative quantities of carbon and nitrogen in soils or organisms. Both carbon and nitrogen are needed in large quantities as plant nutrients, but if the balance between the two is not right problems will occur. If plant material with a high carbon content such as straw is added to soil, extra nitrogen must be added at the same time to maintain the balance.
