  • a red wine grape variety similar to Cabernet Sauvignon that grows well in cooler areas and produces wines with a taste of blackcurrants that are often used in blends. It is grown in France, particularly in the Loire valley and Bordeaux, and in Italy, California and South Africa. It produces wine with lower levels of tannin and acid than Cabernet Sauvignon.
