  • A very similar fruit to water caltrop of the related species, Trapa natans. It too has been used as a food source since Neolithic times and is still grown and eaten in central Europe and Asia. It has a floury texture and an agreeable flavour and may be eaten raw, roasted or boiled like a chestnut.
