  • noun a pusher or dealer of illicit drugs, especially heroin or cocaine. Originating in black street usage, in which candy could also signify sexual gratification, this expression became part of the addicts’ lexicon in the USA by the 1950s. (The original ‘candyman’ was an innocent peddler of sweets in the early 1900s.) The word features in numerous blues and folk songs.
