  • In parts of Yorkshire, the name given to the chief mummer who led his troupe from house to house on Plough Monday. His retinue includeda fiddler, a man in women's clothes, and others driving a plough withoutits share. The Captain would be adorned with brightly coloured ribbons and always had a genuine calf's tail fixed behind him.
