  • noun an impact resistance test in which the specimen is supported as a horizontal beam and broken by a single swing of a pendulum with the impact line midway between the supports and directly opposite the notch for notched specimens


  • A measurement of material strength at impact. A specimen, usually notched, is struck by a pendulum at a velocity of 17.5 feet per second. The energy absorbed in the fracture is then measured.
