circular light orbit

Definition

Astronomy

  • A possible orbit around a black hole in which light, instead of being sucked into the hole, is trapped in a closed path around it. Such light orbits are highly unstable, and energy in them, which forms a sphere around the hole, is likely to be ejected from the system or sucked into the hole.
