  • Term for the part of the sky always above the horizon from the point of view of an observer at a particular point on the Earth’s surface. The area of the sky from the pole down to the observer’s own latitude is circumpolar, never going below the horizon. At the equator there is no circumpolar sky, while the poles have pure circumpolar sky, with the same hemisphere of stars running round the sky parallel to the horizon.
