color coding

  • The use of different colors to identify and categorize. An example is a color code.
  • The coding of a control, such as a button or knob, by a distinctive color. For example, an on/off button of a TV being red, while the volume control buttons are green. The colors which are usually most effectively differentiated are blue, green, orange, red, and yellow. Such coding may also be used in combination with size and shape coding.
