Common Gateway Interface script



  • Its abbreviation is CGI script. An application which is executed by a World Wide Web server in response to input from an Internet user accessing certain elements of a Web page, such as those contained in an order form. It is the most common way for Web servers to interact dynamically with Internet users. A CGI script, for instance, interprets the received information and transfers it to another program on the server such as a database, and then uses this information to update the Web page tailored to the user's needs. Also called Common Gateway Interface program.
