constant angular velocity

Definitions

General Science

  • noun a constant speed of spinning of a CD-ROM.

Electronics

  • In magnetic and optical storage, the rotating of a disk in a drive at a steady rate, regardless of what area of the disk is being accessed. Since the tracks on the disk are longer as the outer edge is approached, more information is available there. This contrasts with constant linear velocity, in which the disk rotates at a variable rate. Its abbreviation is CAV.
