  • The exchange where a particular futures or options contract is legally allowed to be traded. For example, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange is one of the world largest contract markets and is designated as the exchange for S&P 500 Index options. The foreign exchange market is worldwide and dispersed throughout many financial institutions in nearly every country. It does have different access levels. The top is the interbank level, which is comprised of commercial banks and security dealers.
