  • noun a person who preys on those illegally immigrating to the USA from Mexico. The word (literally, prairie wolf) is used in Spanish to describe unscrupulous agents, mainly Mexican, who offer to help wetbacks cross the border, but instead rob, defraud, denounce or even kill them. A term from the late 1970s and 1980s.
