    used to describe the performance of a computer insofar as it is limited by the number of instructions the CPU can carry out. Effectively, the memory and I/O devices can transfer data faster than the CPU can produce it.

Electronics

  • Abbreviation of central-processing unit bound. A circumstance in which a CPU is overloaded with calculations, which impairs its ability to process. May occur, for example, while recalculating a spreadsheet. Also called compute-bound, computation-bound, or process-bound.
