  • A group of British comedians. Their comedy and variety act, whichinvolved mixing with the audience and riotous impromptu routines, enjoyedsuccess for some 30 years. The Gang comprised three double acts: Bud Flanagan(1896 - 1968) and Chesney Allen (1894 - 1982), famous for their manysongs, including 'Underneath the Arches'; Jimmy Nervo (1890 - 1975) andTeddy Knox (1896 - 1974); and Charlie Naughton (1887 - 1976) and JimmyGold (1886 - 1967). They first appeared together on the stage of the LondonPalladium in 1932 and starred there almost continuously until 1940. After thewar Chesney Allen retired, and the Gang reformed at the Victoria Palace in1947, with the eccentric 'Monsewer' Eddie Gray (1897 - 1969). Theydisbanded in 1962.
