  • adjective frightening, grotesque or merely unpleasant. An American teenagers’ word, from the title of a horror film released in 1982. The adjective is an elaboration of ‘creepy’ and the earlier term ‘creepsville’, and has been heard among British teenagers since the late 1980s.
