  • A legendary Irish hero. He was brought up in the court of King Conchobar of Ulster, whose kingdom he defended single-handed against the armies of Queen Medb of Connacht. His heroic life and death provide the subject matter for a cycle of plays by W. B. Yeats, including On Baile's Strand (1904), At theHawk's Well (1916), and The Death of Cuchulain (1939).
