cutoff voltage

Definitions

Electronics

  • For an electron tube or transistor, the value of control electrode voltage that stops the flow of output current.
  • For a given steady magnetic flux density in a magnetron, the highest theoretical value of anode voltage that would prevent an electron emitted from the cathode at zero velocity from reaching the anode. Also called critical voltage.
  • For a cell or battery, the voltage at which discharge is complete. Also called end-of-discharge voltage.
