  • A curved curtain, cloth, or other screen used to close offthe back of the stage and part of the wings and create an impressionof three-dimensional space. Sometimes called a cyc for short,it is hung to stage level and lit from top to bottom by floodlights.Since rigidity and an unbroken surface are essential, some theatershave permanent plaster or cement cycloramas. Partial and movable cycloramashave also been created with some success. The cyclorama was developedin Germany where it is called a Rundhorizont (round horizon).
