  • A layer of the ionosphere that usually only occurs during daylight hours, and which is contained in the D-region. It extends approximately from 60 to 100 kilometers above the surface of the earth, is the lowest ionospheric layer, and is situated below the E-layer. It reflects low frequency radio waves, while absorbing higher-frequency radio waves.
