  • The region of the ionosphere in which the D-layer forms. This region usually only occurs during daylight hours, and extends approximately from 60 to 100 kilometers above the surface of the earth. It is the lowest ionospheric region, is situated below the E-region, and its greatest ionization occurs at midday.
