  • The absorption of moisture from the air by certain salts in plaster or brick, resulting in damp spots that appear darker than the surrounding material.

Electronics

  • The gradual conversion of a solid into a liquid, through the attraction and absorption of atmospheric moisture. Such a substance may be used, for instance, to help keep electronic equipment dry. An example is potassium carbonate.
