  • The type of statistics in which the emphasis is on describing the principal, or most interesting, features of a set of data. For example, variables may be characterized as qualitative or quantitative, or data may be distributed in a particular way around a mode, or two sets of data may be related, one rising (or falling) as the other falls (or rises).
