Diagnostic-related Group

Health Economics

  • Diagnostic-related Groups (DRGs) are diagnoses grouped according to their clinical similarity and the cost of treatment. Under US Medicare, patients are classified according to their DRG, of which there are about 500, and the hospital is reimbursed by a fixed price for the 'standard' treatment under that DRG.
