Electronics

  • A signal which is in the form of discrete states which correspond to a fixed number of digits. For example, such a signal may consist of two voltage levels, such as high and low, which represent the numbers 0 and 1. This contrasts with analog signals, which can vary in a continuous and infinitely variable manner within any give interval.
  • A classification system describing the transmission rates and other characteristics of digital communications circuits. For instance, digital signal level 2, or DS2, corresponds to a data signaling rate of 6.312 Mbs. Its abbreviation is DS. Also called digital service.
